What goes into a university savings target?
A university plan brings together tuition, living costs, separate inflation assumptions, existing education funds and the timing of each academic year. Compare a shared family fund with individual children’s plans. School timelines provide context; the funding illustration focuses on university costs. The University Cost Guide offers destination benchmarks.
A worked example with visible assumptions
For one child starting a three-year course in 10 years, assume annual tuition of $20,000 and living costs of $12,000 today, inflating at 5% and 3% respectively. Total projected costs are $152,549. With $15,000 already saved and a constant 6% return after estimated charges, the engine estimates $633 per month through the final payment in year 12. Costs are paid at each academic year’s start; these are hypothetical costs, with no tax or exchange-rate forecast.
